Children started from aged 8 to 18 spend their times 7 and half hours every day in front of screens to have fun. Eighty percent of the parents surveyed think that they were good role models for how to use digital technology. This demonstrate a real lack of awareness of the range of the issue. The technology can be great for connecting us, interesting us, and teaching us new things but only if we use it in a healthy way. If you’re spending too much on a screen time, it could impact your sleeping patterns and you may not have a healthy sleep. We spend too much time playing with our devices even when it’s time for bed. The notification on our devices can even wake us up in the middle of the night and it could take away our sleeping time. Lack of sleeping could give you stressed and worried.
We’ve seen a lot of couple now a days spend their times on their phones although they’re going out to eat. They didn’t really use the time to communicate. They use their free times on their phone to use social media or doing something else. While they are together and if they heard the notification on their phone, it could be an interruption. They will give their attention more to the phone. We can’t really pay attention and communicate with one another freely. It’s kind of hurt and it doesn’t make us happy anymore when our love one don’t give much attention to us. There could be a misunderstanding because of that. This related to digital citizenship because of the technology use. People are using their technology in an unhealthy way by spending too much times. According to Screen Times Rules: Not Just for Kids Anymore, “If you’re wasting too much time caught in the addictive tech cycle, it’s time to build a healthier relationship.”
It’s important for educator and professional to be aware of this because it’s not appropriate if they’re using their devices during the meeting or class time. If they’re spending their times with phone and another person have to wait, it will waste a lot of time and that person would not think about meeting them again. If they have an interviews and they did that, the boss will never hired them. So, we have to use the screen time wisely and to respect the people around us. If you want others to pay attention to you, do the same to them. It’s best to put the device away to stay away from the notification. Make a limit time about how much you want to spend each day so it won’t be a problem to you and to the other.
